Authors: Larry King and Pat Piper

Must read
This book was wirtten in 1999, and after 2.5 years I saw lots of the things they said is getting real.
The book is mostly about American culture but therearesome parts which is global. And they really catch my attention.
The part that is most interesting and true is the converstaion with Richad Holbroke. His future forecast about terrorism was right. After 9/11, it became reality.
If you want to have a different point of view from experts, read this book.

A Must-Read
This book captivated me this summer, and has lead me to look into and research other areas of our changing world...It is a must-read for any college student who wants to take an active role in the next millenium.

Geologic Story of Yosemite National Park
Published in Paperback by Yosemite Assn (December, 1989)
Author: N. King Huber
Average review score:

An indispensible companion for a trip to Yosemite
Huber has done a terrific job! Don't go to Yosemite without acquiring this book first. Short, clear, and without a peer as a pocket guide for the layman and rusty professional. Use this book for Yosemite and also get James Moore's wonderful book "Exploring the Highest Sierra" (Kings Canyon and Sequioa parks)for a greatly enriched tour of the Sierra Nevada.

Great introduction to geology of the Sierra
This is a great book for anyone who climbs or backpacks in Yosemite or the high Sierra. If you've ever looked at the knobs on Cathedral Peak, the dikes at Lover's Leap, the domes around Tuolumne, or the cirques and jagged peaks in the high Sierra and wondered what caused them to form, read this book. It gives a great background on the geology of the Sierra, specifically focusing on Yosemite. It is accessible to someone without a background in geology without being dumbed down.

Gildenford
Published in Hardcover by Scribner (May, 1977)
Author: Valerie Anand
Average review score:

Outstanding Novel of Pre-Conquest England!
This is a first novel by Valerie Anand concerning the period shortly before the Norman Conquest of 1066. It is an extraordinary read! A little known period in England history is unveiled here. In 1036 one of the most hideous, bloody massacres that ever took place was in Gildenford, England, now known as Guildford. Six hundred followers of Alfred Atheling, the younger brother of Edward the Confessor were slaughtered near the town of Gildenford. What is not commonly known, however, is that Earl Godwin of Wessex was thought to be involved.

The period covered here is mainly the reign of Edward the Confessor, not of Cnut, nor of Harold, son of Godwin. They are major characters in their own right, however, not in this novel, but are still background players to Brand Woodcutter who serves Earl Godwin and later on Edward. All of this is seen through his eyes, from belonging to a larger than life family of the Godwins, to realizing his part in the betrayal of Alfred Atheling, to his service of Edward, and finally his becoming William, Duke of Normandy's man. William's part is just beginning in this book but will continue in later novels.

This was one of the best books I have read! I never even realized that this period in history existed. I still like Earl Godwin, however, I can see that he is not perfect and by no means a saint as many other novels I have read would make you believe. It was a real eye-opener to a obscure time in history. This book stands well on its own, but I can hardly wait to read "Norman Pretender" and "The Disputed Crown" by Valerie Anand. Sadly, they are all out of print but are well the search!

FAB-U-LOUS!
This is such a great wonderful book. It is about the regins of King Cnut, Harold I, Hardicanute, and Edward the Confessor. At the center of all the action is Earl Godwin and his fascinating, well-fleshed family members: Gytha, Harold, Swegyn, and Edith. A must-read for anyone interested in pre-Conquest England.

Girl on a Pony (The Western Frontier Library, Vol 61)
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Oklahoma Pr (Trd) (April, 1994)
Authors: Laverne Hanners and Larry L. King
Average review score:

A powerful woman's jewel
You wouldn't guess at the power of this book from it's size. As finely written as the complicated, intricately tatted lace fancywork Laverne's mother tatted into bleached sugar sacks, "still whole after fifty years." Stories as gripping and gritty as anything Hemingway ever wrote, featuring hailstorms that break every window in the house, treacherous horses, dogs, and rattlesnakes, and scandalous cowboys. Frequent flashes of wise, deep humor, understated and droll, that catches you unawares and leaves you laughing out loud. This was a woman worthy of the name. Would make a terrific movie.

Funny and honest life of a girl growing up in the desert
I wish you could all have met Dr. Hanners! Janet Reno wrote to Dr. Hanners praising her mutual memory of growing up wild and free while trying to control nature and nature in the form of a pony. These are real people, many of whom still live in Kenton, Oklahoma, population 52.

Very well done. In these uncertain times, the bible brings solace and comfort like never before. It's message is relevant today as much as it was 2,000 years ago. Read it and change your life.

Getting to Know God Everyday
A clear and simple reading for common everyday people who want to know God on simple terms. It is a study of the Lord's word through four books of the bible every day. Through studying the bible in Sunday School lessons we get chopped up versions in our heads of the stories that have been written. This book is easy to follow and you quickly you realize that it ties both old and new testaments together so and all of it makes sense from front to back of the bible. The language is easily understood. Enjoy getting to know God as I have.

Gods, Sages and Kings
Published in Paperback by Morson Publishing (June, 1991)
Authors: David Frawley and Bepin Behari
Average review score:

A Must read book!
This is an excellent book which I would reccommend strongly to anyone who is interested in Hinduism or the history of the Vedic Culture in general as it gives both traditional and historical accounts of events in ancient India as well as the significance behind Hindu ideals and deities, the greatness of India's Rich Rishis and Kings! All Traditionalist Hindus should keep a copy in their own homes as it gives Hindus inspiration and glory of their culture, which they should be proud of as David Frawley shows us!

A very important book on ancient India
Challenges old notions regarding ancient Indian history and makes a powerful case for a new view based on new archaeology and literary analysis. A MUST BUY for any lover of Indian history!

Good King Richard: An Account of Richard III and His Reputation
Published in Hardcover by Hippocrene Books (July, 1989)
Author: Jeremy Potter
Average review score:

If only all historians were like the late Jeremy Potter...
One of the greatest pleasures in reading is suddenly finding out books that are absolutely flawless. That moment of realisation that there is nothing wrong with a book is what makes me keep on reading, and reading, and reading. "Good King Richard?" is such a book. It will keep you interested, engrossed, will make you laugh, but above all will make you think. How many works of historiography can boast that, I wonder?

The theme is self evident: the first chapters are an account of Richard III's life, acession to the throne and, most of all, the facts and the opinions that were current during his lifetime. After his death at Bosworth Field we move on to the treatment given to his reputation, and how it has changed during the last five centuries.

Die-hard anti-Richards will probably dismiss this book as steeped in partisanship (obviously ignoring the fact that they are deeply partisan themselves), but they are missing the whole point. Potter's work is of an erudite and scholarly tone while remaining entertaining and acute, and he does what many forget to do, which is to put events in the context of their times. Traditionalists prone to moralising should mention what they would do if they found themselves in Richard's shoes in 1483, and they should also avoid forgetting that Richard prevented an outburst of civil war by accepting the throne.

I am quite obviously a Ricardian, but what remains unique about this book is that it is one of those rare jewels that combines acessibility with knowledge, entertainment with scholarly seriousness, a contemporary acuteness with a firm grasp of the idyossincracies of other epochs. Richard has lost a great advocate with the passing of Jeremy Potter, and the world of History has lost one of its few outstanding writers.

Extraordinary!
There is adequate evidence available to doubt the "traditional" Thomas More/William Shakespeare account of King Richard III. Since 1997, there have been two mock trials (with various U.S. Supreme Court Justices as jurors) charging Richard III with the murder of "the princes in the Tower." In both instances, King Richard III was acquitted. This book's arguments give the evidence as to why Richard and his reputation should be re-examined. Sadly, Jeremy Potter passed away in Nov 97. He will be missed.

Good King Wenceslas

Authors: Christopher Manson and John Mason Neale

Ye Who Will Bless the Poor, Shall Yourselves Find Blessing
An excellent children's book of one of the greatest carols ever. This carol above all proclaims the social justice of the Gospel; the need to share what we have with others, even in the face of our own adversity, and at the loss of our own pleasure. It's only the more wonderful in that it's based on the story of an actual king, Wencelass, the patron saint of the Czech Republic, who worked tirelessly for his five years in office to bring Christianity to his country of Bohemia. With very beautiful illustrations with a Gothic style of writing, the entire carol is included, a verse for each illustration, along with the notes at the end to sing along with. Children of about 30 should enjoy this work as well.

I don't know,
This a legend from my childhood, one of the many I was told nothin of. buy this one for your kids, so that they may know that wich I knew not.

Techno~Medical Sensation
In The Hahnemann Sequela, Harold King exposes the vein that runs from medical research to business and computer technology with surgical precision. This compelling novel begins with the author's insistence that we face our greatest fear ~ life can change in a heartbeat. Mixing a taste for complex research with his unique flavour of mystery, King delivers a potent dose of suspense and intrigue to one common man who must face a life~and~death struggle against astonishing odds. This is a novel fraught with tension and, all at once, frightening and provocative. A brilliantly written work, from the "undisputed crown prince of suspense," that will leave you wondering where fiction begins and ends. Find a copy of this book.
